I have been Professor of Computing at the University of Canberra since 1996, specialising in biometrics (voice, face, finger recognition, multibiometric fusion) and computer security. I was the Head of the then School of Computing from 1996 to 2001, Head of the Discipline of Software Engineering from 2005 to 2011 and the Director of the National Centre for Biometric Studies from 2006 to 2010. Within the information technology and engineering courses offered by the Faculty, I currently teach subjects in biometric person authentication and computer security as well as programming in Java and C# ("C sharp"). My research interests and current projects are in the areas of speech and speaker recognition; face recognition; speaker characteristics and emotion detection; language, dialect and accent recognition; and forensic speaker recognition. I am also a licensed radio amateur (VK1XYZ) with an interest in narrow-band speech coding and transmission.
